Inspiration

For me photography is delight. It embraces all aspects of composition, light and technology.

Photography is a mixture of art and science where creativity matters

Composition is the most important part of what I do. The creation of the image is where inspiration really matters. Dedication plays an important part. One has to take time to see the image and take time to fit it into the context of what one is trying to demonstrate.

One would think that for someone like me with a background in design this would all have come naturally to me. It did for my Contemporary work. At one stage for landscapes I knew I had to throw more time and enthusiasm into my images. Whilst my work was satisfying it was not progressing. I benefited greatly from time spent with Colin Prior a Master of Landscape Photography. Colin is more than a photographer. He is truly connected with the land and its wildlife. One example which intrigued me was whilst in the middle of a shoot he suddenly realised that an egg had been taken by a bigger bird from another bird's nest on the beach. He found the nest which for me was like finding a needle in a hay stack and returned the egg. Whilst he was doing this he was also reading the advancing weather for the light we both needed. In other words he was totally engaged in everything around us. It is perhaps not surprising that with his years of experience coupled with dedication and enthusiasm that his work inspires us so much.  My time with Colin has greatly helped me in developing my approach and style. I  now take more time to create an image and study the depth of each image and the best way to shoot it.  In short I take time to immerse myself more in the subject and have tempered my passion for technology which was previously the predominant factor. I pay more attention to visual depth. I spend more time controlling the image content in order to achieve simple forms. Less is more. I want each image to have the essential ingredients to engage the viewer without distractions. By engaging more with the subject I get my rewards.

In parallel with honing my landscape skills I am developing my Contemporary Photography. I improve the image content to tell a better story. I am also experimenting using a variety of focal lengths to create depth. Please refer to the link headed "Charles Rennie Macintosh" in my Main Page

Digital Photography has also given me enjoyable technical challenges. The need to keep abreast with the fast continuous technological development provides added satisfaction.

Photography provides much more fun for me than any else I have ever done. The freedom of working as a sole practitioner makes it extremely rewarding. However being part of the photographic community and participating with others to share knowledge is important

My aim is simple to inspire.

I am always happy to share information and thank fellow photographers who have without exception been so open and helpful in this regard

Best Wishes
